The world's busiest airport for cargo, Hong Kong, saw freight volumes decline by 4.2% in January to 401,000 tonnes.
"Uncertain global economic conditions contributed to decreases in cargo volume in January," the airport said.
Imports and transhipments were affected the most, registering 8% and 6% year-on-year drops, respectively.
Amongst key trading regions, cargo traffic to and from Europe and Southeast Asia decreased most significantly during the month.
In terms of movements, cargo flights in January declined by 1.5% to 4,889 take offs and landings.
Hong Kong is not the only airport to have seen cargo traffic decline in January- Heathrow reported a 1.8% decline, there was a 4.3% decline at Frankfurt and Brussels noted a 3.2% drop off.
