Hong Kong airport, the world’s largest freight hub in 2015, saw a 1.5% rise in January cargo volumes to 361,000 tonnes.

The growth in cargo throughput last month was mainly attributed to 3% year-on-year growth in both exports and transhipments, said operator Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA).

“During the month, cargo throughput to/from key trading regions in Australasia and Europe grew most significantly compared to other key regions,” said HKIA.

In 2015, Hong Kong recorded a full year cargo increase of just 0.1% to 4.4m tonnes, but still remained the global number one freight airport.
