Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) saw significant growth in cargo volumes during November 2017 as throughput went up by 6.9% year on year to 466,000 tonnes.

Transhipments and exports were the main drivers of growth in cargo throughput in November at the world's number one airfreight hub in 2016. Compared to the same month last year, transhipments registered 10% year-on-year growth, and exports recorded an 8% increase.

Among the key trading regions, traffic to/from North America, India and Europe increased most significantly, said an airport spokesperson.

Over the first 11 months of 2017, HKIA’s cargo throughput soared 9.6% from the same period in 2016 to 4.48m tonnes.

On a rolling 12-month basis, HKIA saw cargo throughput climbed 9.7% to 4.91m tonnes.
