Hong Kong Air Cargo (HKAC) has launched a new weekly all-cargo route between Hong Kong International Airport and Birmingham Airport in the UK.
The new route will be served by an Airbus A330-200 freighter. This is the second UK route opened by the airline, following the February launch of the London Stansted route.
HKAC did not specify what day(s) the route would operate, but said its proposed timetable would see the A330-200F leave Hong Kong at 7.40am and arrive into Birmingham at 5.20pm local time.
The freighter would then leave Birmingham at 7.20pm local time to travel back to Hong Kong, arriving at 3.25pm the next day.
Gary Zhan, chairman of Hong Kong Air Cargo, stated: “We are thrilled to open this new route. Birmingham, the UK’s second-largest city, is now our second new destination in the country following the launch of our London route in February this year.
"This is a significant milestone in our network expansion plan and will enhance cargo logistics and trade between Hong Kong, Birmingham, and the central region of the UK. We look forward to providing our customers with superior service.”
Hong Kong Air Cargo said it plans to continue to expand its network following the launch of a number of new routes recently as it aims to capitalise on the e-commerce boom.
Last month, the airline launched a route between Hong Kong and Budapest in Hungary and a freighter service to Oslo as it looked to benefit from demand for seafood products in Asia.
In March, the carrier launched a service to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Shortly before, in February, the company began operating routes to Liege in Belgium and London Stansted.
Only in October last year did it start operations in Europe for the first time with a service to Milan Malpensa.
