Halifax Stanfield Airfield has re-opened after a Boeing 747-400 freighter operated by SkyLease came off the runway early this morning.
The airport said the incident occurred at 5.05am local time when the aircraft (Flight KKE 4854/Reg 908AR) came in to land from Chicago, going off the end of runway 14/32.
The aircraft was carrying four crew members who have been taken to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
The aircraft's owner, Lease Corporation International, said in a statement: "We can confirm that a Boeing 747-400 freighter owned by LCI was involved in an accident at Halifax Airport on 7th November, 2018. We are in close contact with the aircraft operator and relevant authorities to provide assistance and support.”
While the airport has re-opened, flight schedules continue to be significantly affected. Certain roads around the airport have also been closed while investigations are carried out.
The airport said: "Halifax Stanfield has activated its emergency plan and its well-trained and highly skilled emergency response team is responding to the incident along with local emergency responders including Royal Canadian Mounted Police, Halifax Regional Police, Halifax Regional Fire & Emergency, and Emergency Health Services"
