Vietnam Airlines and ground handler SATS are partnering on the development of a new cargo terminal at Long Thanh International Airport (LTIA) in Vietnam.
The two companies yesterday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to build and operate an air cargo terminal at the new Long Thanh International Airport (LTIA) currently being built to serve Ho Chi Minh City.
Air Cargo News has requested more details on the size and capacity of the new terminal.
The agreement comes as Vietnam Airlines has plans to launch the country’s first all-freighter airline.
LTIA is located 35 km from Ho Chi Minh City in the Dong Nai province and is being constructed to alleviate congestion at the city’s existing Tan Son Nhat International Airport.
LTIA is due to launch operations in phases, with phase one expected to commence operations by the second half of 2026.
The airport will have the capacity to handle up to 25m passengers and 1.2m tonnes of cargo annually and will eventually expand to its full capacity of 100m passengers and 5m tonnes of cargo by 2050.
As well as developing the new facility, the partnership also includes efforts to co-develop customised airfreight and logistics solutions, such as trucking and middle-mile services.
Kerry Mok, president and chief executive of SATS, said: “This partnership offers significant growth potential as we jointly explore new opportunities in global markets. At SATS, we bring extensive expertise and experience to the table, ensuring the provision of efficient cargo terminal and ground handling services at Vietnam’s newest airport.”
Vietnam Airlines, the flag carrier of Vietnam, has a fleet of over 93 aircraft and currently flies to more than 22 domestic and 30 international destinations.
