The UK’s Freight Transport Association (FTA) has written to British prime minister Theresa May, urging the government to agree on the format and timescales for the country’s future trading relationship with the EU so the businesses can plan accordingly.
“British businesses have heard enough talking – what’s needed now is a concrete solution to enable all those involved in moving goods and services across the UK’s borders to plan with certainty for a post-Brexit future,” said James Hookham, FTA deputy chief executive.
The association’s 16,000-strong membership includes providers of road, rail, sea and air transport, as well as their customers.
“Leaving the logistics industry in limbo will cost the economy – and consumers – money, and no one voted to be poor as a result of the Brexit referendum,” Hookham said. “It’s time for the government to make the decisions which will keep Britain trading successfully.”
