Fraport Cargo Services will take over the handling operations for China Southern Cargo at Frankfurt from February 25. The Chinese carrier is currently handled by LUG.

The wholly-owned subsidiary of Fraport will be in charge of the five weekly freighters between the carrier’s home hub of Guangzhou and Frankfurt, as well as its six-times-week Shanghai route. There are also passenger flights three times a week to Guangzhou.

Formed in 1991 and now China’s biggest airline, China Southern operates a fleet of Boeing 777 freighters. The contract is expected to involve around 70,000 tonnes a year. China Southern is a member of the SkyTeam Cargo alliance and one of the biggest cargo companies in Frankfurt.
