Korean Air has partnered with forwarder LX Pantos to expand the use of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) on cargo flights.
The two companies signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) at the Korean Air headquarters on November 20 that will see LX Pantos purchase SAF covering the carrier's cargo operations.
Korean Air will then share the amount of carbon emissions reduced with the forwarder accordingly.
LX Pantos is the inaugural partner for the programme.

Together, we hope to cooperate closely to expedite the commercialization of SAF, a common goal in the aviation industry, and enhance awareness of SAF utilization in the Korean market," said Jaedong Eum, senior vice president and head of cargo at Korean Air.
Keun Taek Oh, vice president and head of airfreight at LX Pantos, added: "Decarbonising the air logistics industry is a key survival factor for the future. LX Pantos will strengthen its ESG activities and take a leading role in creating a sustainable logistics environment through cooperation with Korean Air on SAF.”
Korean Air launched its cargo SAF programme programme for forwarders in September.
From production to consumption, sustainably-produced SAF may reduce carbon footprint up to 80% compared to existing fossil-derived aviation fuel.
IATA expects SAF to account for 65% of the mitigation needed to achieve the industry’s net zero goals by 2050.
