Finnair Cargo has signed up to use software provider Mercator’s SkyChain air cargo management system as the airline expands hub and air capacity.

SkyChain will be implemented by October 2016, six months ahead of the opening of Finnair's new cargo terminal in spring 2017.

The new terminal is being developed in line with Finnair's fleet expansion which will see cargo capacity expand by 50% by 2020 as new Airbus A350 XWB aircraft are delivered.

Mercator chief executive Cormac Whelan said: “SkyChain is a next-generation air cargo management solution that supports warehouse automatization, while enabling greatly improved planning and process optimization.

“Some of the most significant benefits delivered by SkyChain are advanced cargo capacity planning, as well as process steering capabilities.”
