FedEx is warning customers to expect delays to shipments originating in the Shanghai area as the government is ordered factories to close ahead of the G20 Summit.
The express giant said in a news bulletin that China had ordered 255 Shanghai-based industrial facilities to shut down ahead of the Summit, running from September 4-6, in order to reduce pollution levels as the world's media and leaders swoop on the city.
"This may cause supply chain disruptions," FedEx said. "Delays are expected with the transportation of goods originating from China. FedEx Trade Networks will continue to monitor the situation to minimise any service impacts associated with the plant closures."
FedEx is not the first logistics firm to warn of potential disruption caused by the summit. As long ago as March MIQ Logistics said its Shanghai office was receiving reports that factories would close for the event.
