A TECHNICAL fault which forced a Boeing Dreamliner into land could trigger more inspection headaches for freighter operators.
United flight 1146 from Houston to Newark was diverted to New Orleans on Tuesday for an unspecified mechanical problem. The passenger jet shares the same GEnx-1B and -2B engine with the 747-8F, which has also had technical incidents including an aborted takeoff this year.
The trouble with the United Airlines' 787 Dreamliner is likely to trigger a new set of directives for 8F owners issued by the US National Transport Safety Board (NTSB) and Federal Aviation Authority (FAA).
In September the NTSB criticised cargo operators for dragging their feet on recommendations to check midshafts in GE engines following the aborted takeoff.
