ETIHAD CARGO and Atlas Air Worldwide have joined forces to operate a round-the-world freighter route.

The service connects Etihad’s Abu Dhabi hub with destinations in Asia, the USA, South America and Europe.

Kevin Knight, Etihad Airways’ chief strategy and planning officer, enthuses: “Etihad Cargo is reinforcing its position as a global operator with the round-the-world routing. This goes beyond simply 'joining the dots', it’s about working with partners, operating routes which benefit our customers across the globe, entering new markets, establishing new trade lanes, being cost effective and delivering value.”

News of this latest partnership comes after Etihad signed a multi-year aircraft, crew, maintenance and insurance (ACMI) agreement with Atlas Air for a B747-8 Freighter, which will enter service in June.

The Abu Dhabi-Hong Kong (China)-Chicago (US)-Miami (US)-Viracopos (Brazil)-Quito (Ecuador)-Amsterdam (Netherlands)-Abu Dhabi freighter service got under way on 30 May.

“The three new freighter destinations – Miami (US), Viracopos (Brazil), and Quito (Ecuador) – in the Americas will see Etihad Cargo’s network extend to 92 points across the globe,” the flag carrier of the UAE states.

Eight freighters operate on 28 of Etihad’s network destinations.
