ETIHAD CARGO has augmented its services to Switzerland and to the United States by offering new bellyhold cargo capacity on daily flights between Abu Dhabi and Zurich and Los Angeles.

The flag carrier of the UAE already flies to Geneva, and to Chicago, New York and Washington DC in the USA.

The new Abu Dhabi-Zurich service offers cargo customers 260 tonnes of weekly bellyhold uplift, whilst flights to Los Angeles will offer 130 tonnes, says a company statement.

Etihad is using an A330-300 on the Abu Dhabi-Zurich route and a B777-200LR on the Los Angeles service.

Kevin Knight, chief strategy and planning officer at Etihad Airways, says: “Switzerland and the USA are key markets for us and our new services to Zurich and Los Angeles provide shippers with convenient, daily access to points all across our global network.

“In total, we now offer just over 510 tonnes of weekly cargo capacity to and from Switzerland and 940 tonnes to and from the USA, with unique access out of both countries to the Gulf region, the Indian subcontinent market, Africa and many parts of Asia.”

The airline expects the new cargo capacity will appeal to those operating in certain sectors, such as pharmaceuticals, textiles, machinery and fresh produce.

Last year, Etihad Cargo carried more than 6,700 tonnes of goods to and from Switzerland, up 21 per cent on 2012, whilst tonnage to and from the USA during the same period rose 54 per cent to 36,000 tonnes.
