Ethiopian Cargo has switched its Mexican freighter operation to the new Felipe Ángeles International Airport (NLU) in Mexico City.

The airline moved to the new airport from Mexico City International (MEX) on September 2 following a government decree requiring freighter operators to move to the new airport to help ease congestion at MEX.

The airline pointed out that as part of the move it has access to a new cargo terminal.

Ethiopian Airlines chief executive Mesfin Tasew said: “We have been proudly serving the Mexican market from the bustling Mexico City Airport (MEX) for over the past six years.

"Our relocation to the Felipe Ángeles International Airport (NLU) brings with it a new chapter of possibilities.

"Central to this move is a state-of-the-art cargo terminal that boasts cutting-edge technology and modern facilities."

The carrier will operate to NLU twice per week utilising its B777Fs.

Freighter airlines had initially been given until mid-July to move flights to the new airport but the deadline was later pushed back to September following concerns over the short notice period and how ready the new airport was.
