The switch by Ethiopian Airlines to Dutch hub to Dutch hub Maastricht-Aachen hit Brussels Airport’s cargo traffic in November, said the Belgian airport.
Cargo for the month fell by 5.7% and the full freighter segment by 15.5% after Ethiopian failed to get Belgian traffic rights for its onward flights to Dubai, Hong Kong and Shanghai.
Belly cargo also dropped by 6.4% compared to November last year, in line with Europe-wide trends, according to the airport authority.
Courier services on the other hand increased volume by 2.3% and passengers were up 5.3%, despite the security situation following the 13 November Paris attacks.
