EMIRATES is celebrating the inauguration of its daily B777-200LR service to Brussels, Belgium, writes Thelma Etim, deputy editor.
The capital city is the 145th route in the Middle East carrier’s network.
Emirates will play a key role in further developing natural business links between Belgium and key markets in the Far East, says a company statement.
The UAE is a key trading partner of Belgium with more than €4bn of goods exchanged between the two countries each year. Both imports and exports have grown steadily since 2009 – 1,504 Belgian companies haves shipped goods to the UAE in the last year.
Belgium’s cargo exports account for 86 per cent of the country’s GDP and Emirates SkyCargo will help boost this by adding up to 17 tonnes of cargo per day, it adds.
Key export commodities include pharmaceuticals, automotive spare parts, chocolates, machinery and equipment, as well as electronics.
Emirates plans to further expand its European portfolio next month, with the launch of a Budapest service.
