Emirates SkyCargo has awarded Emery Air a ground handling contract at Chicago Rockford Airport (RFD) in the US.

Emery Air has also recently completed upgrades to its safety management system (SMS), quality management system (QMS) and training system.

“Following a rigorous process of compliance, the Emery team is delighted to have been awarded the ground handling contract for Emirates SkyCargo operations at RFD, where the SMS, QMS and Training system upgrades we undertook, were an integral part of being able to win this contract,” said Emery Air chief executive officer, Brian Ciambra.

These upgrades were completed with the support and oversight of an external independent IATA accredited ISAGO auditor, working in close co-operation with the team at Emirates SkyCargo and in accordance with the ICAO Safety Management Manual, as Emery works towards becoming an IATA registered ground handling partner.

Emirates SkyCargo started freighter flights to RFD in February.

A new cargo facility constructed by RFD will open in April. It will incorporate around 100,000 sq ft of warehouse space and be operated by Emery Air.

Emery Air provides scheduled and charter airline passenger handling, air cargo handling and a full range of fixed base operator services, including plane refuelling, de-icing, warehousing and a package of air cargo handling services for scheduled, charter and ad hoc air cargo flights.

RFD is the second largest UPS hub outside Kentucky and the Midwest gateway for Amazon Prime Air. RFD saw a 25% increase in air cargo in 2021 to 3.4 billion pounds of landed weight.
