Drewry Sea & Air Shipper Insight’s East-West Air Freight Price Index ended a two-month decline in February, gaining 2.2 points to reach 101.8.
The index has lost over 21 points from November’s all-time high. February’s reading was actually 5.6 points above that for the same month last year which, says the analyst, is “indicative of the degree to which the market has recovered over the past 12 months.”
However, Drewry expects airfreight pricing to soften in March, due to lower freight volumes following the Chinese New Year holiday period and easing US West Coast container port congestion.
Thereafter, it anticipates that rates will recover with the onset of the northern hemisphere spring.
