The use of electronic air waybills (e-AWB) continued to pick up pace in September and it now looks as if the industry will fall just shy of end of year targets set by IATA.

The latest statistics from IATA show that e-AWB useage has now reached a penetration level of 34.1% - an increase of 2.4 percentage points on the August level.

It is the second month in a row that increases have exceeded the two percentage point mark.

If e-AWB useage were to continue to increase at the same percentage point increase rate, penetration would reach 41.3% by the end of the year, just shy of IATA’s target of 45%.

IATA said that Ethiopian Airlines were the growth leaders in September with an increase of 8.5 percentage points to 63.2% e-AWB penetration. China Airlines followed closely, increasing by 7.2 percentage points to reach 45.3% penetration.
