The use of electronic air waybills (e-AWB) picked up again in April after a surprising drop off in March.
The latest statistics from IATA show that e-AWB penetration reached 38.3% in April, up 1.2 percentage points compared with March figures.
The improvement will be welcomed by IATA after there was a 0.4 percentage point slowdown in March, raising questions as to whether the industry would be able to hit the end-year-target of 56% set by the organisation.
However, the organisation is hoping that its 360 Programme could help boost usage, with the second round of airports only joining the initiative in March.
The 360 programme requires that the majority of operating airlines and ground handling agents at an airport offer an e-AWB as the preferred means to all destinations and that they adopt a single process service and a standard operating procedure.
In total, nine airports are now part of the programme with a further 12 set to join by the end of the year.
