Electronic air waybill (e-AWB) penetration in August registered the highest increase in percentage point terms so far this year but time is running out to meet the end of year target.

The latest statistics from IATA show that e-AWB penetration has now reached 31.7%, up by 2.7 percentage points from the July level. It is also the first time e-AWB penetration has ever surpassed the 30% mark.

However, with just four months of the year left, the industry looks set to just miss its 45% target for 2015.

In its monthly summary, IATA said that more than half of the total global e-AWB volumes are completed by nine airports: Singapore, Hong Kong, Incheon, Dubai International, Amsterdam, Taiwan Taoyuan, Paris, Heathrow and Chicago O'Hare.
