AL MAKTOUM International at Dubai World Central (DWC) recorded a 15.9 per cent hike in cargo volumes – 63,028 tonnes – in the fourth quarter of 2013.
A 30 per cent jump in tonnage in December (23,661) contributed to the airport’s impressive figures, a statement says.
Overall, DWC recorded a moderate contraction of 4.5 per cent in annual cargo volumes, handling 209 thousand tonnes of airfreight last year in comparison with 219 thousand the year before.
Paul Griffiths, chief executive of Dubai Airports, declares: “Al Maktoum International has made a mark as a cargo airport of regional significance with two consecutive years of handling over 200,000 tonnes of freight.”
