Drewry’s East West Airfreight Price Index climbed 8.36% between August and September to reach a reading of 90.8 – but airfreight rates fell 6% compared to the same month last year, to average $2.67 per kilo.
This contrasted with Drewry Sea & Air Shipper Insight’s prediction that rates would increase in September.
But the market intelligence provider pointed out: “Historically, September to October sees a rise in rates of air cargo. So, Drewry expects that rates will further increase in October.”
Sea & Air Shipper provides analysis of both air and ocean freight markets, including airfreight rates on 57 key trade lanes.
