Freight forwarder Dimerco has transported 165 pallets of Covid self-test kits with a total weight of nearly 50 tons from Hong Kong International Airport (HKG) to Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport (TPE) as infections continue to climb in Taiwan.
The shipment for an unnamed customer in the rapid diagnostics sector was carried out within four days using “commercial airfreight”.
Dimerco consolidated the cargo into a single flight rather than the usual two to three passenger flights after the airline used agreed to prioritise the freight to maximise speed, but Dimerco said it also avoided express freight charges.
Dimerco’s Central Service Centre (CSC) commented: “Our strong relationship with the airline allowed us to meet our customer’s critical time requirements, deliver significant cost savings for them and reduce the transit risk for this temperature-controlled commodity. Similarly, we were able to leverage our long-established partnership with the trucking company to optimize dispatch.”
Dimerco coordinated the customer’s assigned customs clearance and trucking vendors onsite at TPE to complete the import procedure and enable seamless onward transportation. Dimerco continued to report status of the freight to the customer live in real time, maintaining mutual communication throughout.
While the global pandemic has caused a shortage of truck drivers across the industry, Dimerco picked up all 165 pallets from the shipper at origin and transport the freight to HKG.
