Tobias Meyer (L) DHL Group and Zhang Lei, Envision

DHL is partnering with green energy firm Envision on sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and a range of other initiatives that aim to reduce the impact of supply chains on the environment.

The tie up will see Envision, which manufactures wind turbines and invests in other green projects, supply DHL with SAF and "green" electricity.

Meanwhile, DHL will join Envision's project to develop a net zero industrial park and become a preferred logistics supplier.

"The agreement establishes DHL as a key strategic partner for Envision's development plans, leveraging DHL's extensive network across over 220 countries and territories to support Envision's goals in entering new markets for renewable energy," the logistics firm said in a press release.

Lei Zhang, chairman of Envision Group, said: "The aviation sector is currently trailing targets largely due to high costs associated with green hydrocarbons and their derivatives.

"Envision, through systematic innovation, can reduce cost and revolutionise the production of SAF at scale. The development of this "new oil" will support global efforts towards carbon neutrality."

The "Net Zero Industrial Parks" being developed by Envision are fully powered by a "clean energy solution" and integrate the supply chains of several industries, such as electric vehicle and battery manufacturing.

"The partnership framework with Envision represents a further step towards global sustainability leadership for DHL Group. By leveraging our unparalleled logistics expertise and unique global network, we are committed to supporting Envision in their international expansion and logistical challenges," said Tobias Meyer, chief executive at DHL Group.
