DHL Express has invested $2.85m into upgrading and relocating its Canonsburg service centre to Pittsburgh.
The new facility will process shipments ranging from documents and small parcels to palletized freight.
At 30,000 sq ft, it will be 10,000 sq ft larger than the former location.
Run by 60 staff, the new centre will feature three dock doors, new equipment for aircraft container handling and a conveyor system with a raised ramp for sorting package sorting purposes. It will also operate 25 delivery vans and trucks.
Local customers will be able to benefit from earlier delivery times due to it being located 30 miles closer to Pittsburgh's city centre than the Canonsburg location.
“This new facility enables us to maximize our capabilities and provide efficient, high-quality service so customers are best equipped to compete in the global marketplace,” said Nemer Abohasen, vice president and general manager of the Midwest area for DHL Express US.
