Delta Cargo and American Airlines Cargo have updated their restrictions on freight operations in the Caribbean and Florida as Hurricane Irma continues to batter the region.
The hurricane, now downgraded to category four, yesterday hit Turks and Caicos Islands following on from the destruction it caused on other Caribbean islands over the past couple of days.
Puerto Rico escaped the worst of the storm, which is set to hit the Bahamas and Cuba today (September 8) and Saturday, before reaching Florida at the weekend.
Delta has now added the following locations to its Florida embargo: Fort Lauderdale (FLL), Fort Myers (RSW), Melbourne, Miami (MIA), Orlando, Palm Beach (PBI), Sarasota, and Tampa. The embargo at these locations is expected to be lifted at midday (ET) on September 12.
Delta Cargo's existing embargo on Nassau, Punta Cana, Santiago and Santo Domingo (all three Dominican Republic), St Maarten and St Thoma will last until 8am (ET) on September 11.
The embargo on San Juan in Puerto Rico is due to be lifted at 8am (ET) today.
Meanwhile, American Airlines Cargo has added Jacksonville to its embargo list, but has removed San Juan and operations are resumed there.
The Jacksonville embargo is expected to last until early morning September 12.
The airline's embargo on all cargo shipments, including priority parcel and mail until further notice, to/from/through Antigua, Nassau (Bahamas), Providenciales (Turks and Caicos), Saint Kitts, St Thomas (US Virgin Islands) and Saint Maarten applies until further notice.
Cargo to/from/through FLL, RSW and PBI is halted until September 10 at 11.59pm and for MIA until 5pm September 11.
United Cargo restrictions remain as reported yesterday.
