DB Schenker has opened a new entity in textile hub Bangladesh, identified as a priority market for the global freight forwarder with headquarters in Germany.
Said a spokesperson for the logistics player: “Whereas before, customers relied on the service of a partner, Schenker Logistics (Bangladesh) Limited will now be fully operational as a local entity under the global freight forwarder’s India cluster organisation.
“The new Bangladesh subsidiary is now part of the global DB Schenker network, with 2,000 locations in more than 130 countries.”
DB Schenker chief executive Jochen Thewes said: “As one of the priority markets for our Indian subcontinent, the move to establish our own entity in Bangladesh will greatly enhance DB Schenker’s service portfolio in the subcontinent.”
Bangladesh is the world’s second largest exporter of apparel after China.
The new entity will have two offices, in Dhaka and Chattagram, with over 150 employees across the core product offering which includes airfreight, ocean freight and contract logistics spread across six vertical markets: aerospace, electronics & solar semiconductor, automotive, retail & consumer, healthcare and industrial and chemical.
DB Schenker has been operating in Bangladesh since 2007, via an exclusive network partner: SG Logistics (Pvt) Ltd (SGL).
