German logistics company Dachser has opened a new facility in Le Havre, France to help support growth of its contract logistics and air & sea logistics businesses and better coordinate multimodal operations.

The site in France's largest freight port combines a contract logistics warehouse and a Dachser Air & Sea Logistics branch.

The new facility serves as a hub for the transportation of goods by ship and truck and offers customers warehousing and value-added services. With a total area of 37,500 sq m, the site has storage space for up to 17,000 pallets, 5,400 of which are suitable for hazardous goods. In the multi-user warehouse, products from various industries can be stored and prepared for onward transport.

"This second warehouse location in Normandy is close to important roads and sea routes and not far from our branch in Rouen, thus supporting the further development of our business in the region," explains Stéphane Got, general manager Dachser Normandy. "Our combined offer of road, air and sea transport and warehousing is very popular."

Anthony Dupont, managing director Dachser Air & Sea Logistics France, added: "Our Contract Logistics and Air & Sea Logistics teams have been brought together in one location in Le Havre to ensure close cooperation and thus be able to respond optimally to customer requirements."

The new building is certified according to the BREEAM sustainability rating system and is equipped with energy-efficient LED lighting, photovoltaics and battery storage.

The new facility also serves as a Container Freight Station (CFS) for seafreight transports within the Dachser network. The logistics company unloads the LCL sea freight containers that arrive via the port of Le Havre there, feeds the goods into its European overland groupage network via the new branch and brings them directly to French and European customers.
