GERMANY’S Cologne Bonn Airport is seeking an investor for a 10,000-sq m expansion and the operation of its handling centre for general air cargo.

The airport expects bids to be submitted by mid-July for the Cologne Bonn Cargo Center (CBCC) project and the company’s supervisory board will decide on the winning proposal by the end of this year at the latest, says a statement.

With a floor space of 12,000 sq m, the present CBCC is a multifunctional cargo handling centre for forwarders, logistics companies and airlines.

It was built in 2009 and was specially designed to serve simultaneously as an air cargo handling and a neutral forwarding facility.

Construction of additional cargo handling infrastructure is essential to support further growth, says Michael Garvens, head of the airport.

“We regard the planned expansion as a clear commitment to our vision to further develop the general air cargo activities here,” he adds.
