CINCINNATI/Northern Kentucky International Airport’s (CVG) cargo tonnage climbed by nine per cent year-over-year mainly because of DHL’s growing presence at the Tri-State facility.
Since 2009, the integrator has spent more than US$100m upgrading its hub at the airport, currently ranked as the 10th largest in the USA, based on throughput.
Candace McGraw, chief executive of CVG, says: “The increase in cargo helps CVG keep its landing fees stable, which is attractive to prospective carriers. As a result of prudent financial planning, a large portion of debt will be retired in March 2014.
“This has allowed us to reduce landing fees by approximately 30 per cent for this year and 2015 – further improving CVG’s ability to recruit new carriers.”
