China Southern Cargo Airlines has put online the airside operations section of its tracking system, which is based primarily on bar-code technology.
The 38 sections of the system now cover all the air transport processes in cargo and mail, with the cargo information “instantaneously trackable” said a spokesperson for the carrier. The system has been updated more than 40 times since going live in May 2015.
Zhao Fengsheng, head of China Southern Cargo, said: “With this system we can track the status of the cargo real-time during all processes of transport. It makes our ground operation safer and more efficient, thus playing an important role in enhancing our competitiveness”.
Currently, the system covers various processes such as consignment, security check, and loading improving the efficiency of ground operation "by at least 10%” said the spokesperson.
He added: “With the adaptation of this system, China Southern Cargo can track and manage the status of every [item of ] freight and feed back to the customers in real time.
The tracking and management system is currently used in the Guangzhou, Wuhan, Shenzhen, Haikou, Urumqi, Harbin, Guiyang, and Changchun “self-operated” freight stations.
Throughout 2018, China Southern Cargo Airlines will continue to widen use of the system to other self-operated freight stations.
