China Southern Cargo has taken delivery of its ninth B777-200 freighter, in time for cargo demand created by the 2015 Chinese Spring Festival.

By July of this year, China Southern will have added four more B777-200Fs to its cargo fleet, making 12 freighter aircraft in total.

China Southern said that the extra capacity will serve mainly to increase freighter frequencies from Guangzhou or Shanghai to Europe and the US.

“We will also launch new destinations like Paris and London, in order to connect the existing passenger routes Guangzhou-Paris and Guangzhou-London, to enhance competitiveness,” said a spokesman.

At present, China Southern’s cargo arm has three freighter destinations in North America: Chicago, Los Angeles and Vancouver.

In the European market, China Southern has freighter services to Amsterdam, Frankfurt and Vienna, plus trucking connections to more than 100 cities across Europe.
