Changi Airport saw air cargo demand get off to a flyer in January as growth accelerated ahead of levels registered in 2017.

The Singapore airport handled 175,590 tonnes of cargo in January, an increase of 10.7% on a year earlier.

The January increase follows a record breaking 2017 when cargo demand increased by 7.9% year on year to 2.1m tonnes of cargo - the first time it has breached the 2m tonne mark.

Growth for the year was observed for airfreight throughput across imports (+8%), exports (+14%) and transhipments (+4%).

The top five country markets for airfreight were China, Australia, Hong Kong, the US and India.
