Singapore's Changi Airport saw cargo volumes dip 1.5% year on year in March to 185,000 tonnes, following a 8.3% decline in February.
For the first quarter of 2019, Changi's airfreight throughputs were down 3.8% at 493,000 tonnes, which a spokesperson for the Asian hub said was due to "a slowdown in global trade flows, all cargo flows – exports, imports and transhipments – have weakened".
In full year 2018, Changi saw airfreight throughput increase by 1.4% to 2.15m tonnes, although December's cargo volumes dipped 3.8% to 182,000 tonnes.
In March 2019, for comparison, Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA), the world’s number one airfreight hub, saw cargo throughput edge ahead 0.2% year-on-year to 432,000 tonnes.
Over the first three months of 2019, HKIA handled 1.1m tonnes, a 5.4% decrease on 2018.
