For the first time in its history, Caribbean Airlines Cargo has operated one of its Boeing 737-800 passenger aircraft for a cargo-only charter service.
The flight, which took place on May 8, transported essential supplies from Guyana to Cuba.
Caribbean Cargo's new charter service was introduced to serve islands in the region experiencing reduced cargo capacity due the significant reduction in passenger flights because of the coronavirus outbreak.
Marklan Moseley, general manager of cargo and new business at Caribbean Airlines, said: “These are very challenging times and we are sensitive to the need for trade and commerce to continue within the region. We continue to support the supply chain within the Caribbean and are offering our charter services which supplements our current weekly scheduled freighter flights.”
Caribbean Cargo's network serves Barbados, Grenada, Guyana, Jamaica, St. Lucia, St.Vincent, Suriname and other destinations within the Caribbean.
The carrier’s all-cargo B-767 freighter service operates weekly out of its Miami hub to the Caribbean.
Using its interline partners, Caribbean Cargo can provide connections to destinations across the globe onwards from Miami.
