Ontario International Airport (ONT) has recorded a decline in airfreight volumes in April.
The hub experienced a 6% year-on-year decline in air cargo volumes last month to 70,422 tonnes, while year-to-date demand increased by 6.4% to 278,143 tonnes.
Meanwhile, passenger demand increased by almost 900% last month compared with April 2020, which saw passenger travel significantly impacted by the pandemic.
Mark Thorpe, OIAA chief executive officer, commented: “We are encouraged by the steady pace of [passenger] recovery compared to pre-pandemic periods and we are optimistic that as more Americans become vaccinated and resume more normal travel routines, particularly during the summer vacation months, Ontario’s recovery pace will accelerate.”
Throughout 2020, the hub experienced an 18.2% year-on-year increase in cargo demand to 898,188 tonnes.
