AIR CARGO activity at Abu Dhabi International Airport rose 16.6 per cent to 60,059 tonnes in April.
Aircraft movements shot up to 12,420 – up 16.4 per cent.
The top five routes from the UAE airport during April were Bangkok, Manila, London Heathrow, Doha and Jeddah, says a company statement.
“It is a result of Etihad’s growth strategy, evident in new routes to be served this summer including non-stop flights from Abu Dhabi to Los Angeles, Zurich, Belgrade, Perth, Jaipur in India and Yerevan in Armenia,” says Ahmad Al Haddabi, chief operations officer at Abu Dhabi Airports.
The hub airport will see more flights from other airlines this summer – especially to Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Bahrain – and additional services will operate to Pakistan, with extra flights to Lahore, Islamabad, Karachi, Peshawar and Rahim Yar Khan, he reveals.
