Transport Canada has issued new requirements for cargo loaded on passenger aircraft from October 17, including two new shipper categories.
Under the Air Cargo Security Program, existing registered shippers with updated Air Cargo Security (ACS) files will automatically gain Account Consignor status. Air cargo originated by Account Consignors will be screened before loading.
Shippers in Canada may also apply for Known Consignor status. Cargo from these consignors will be treated as secure if the chain of custody is maintained and it can be loaded without additional screening measures.
Shipments from unknown consignors (shippers with neither a Known Consignor nor Account Consignor status) will not be loaded on passenger aircraft without additional security measures.
