AN airfreight executive has called for action from IATA to make it easier for businesses to use air cargo.
Stan Wraight, executive director of Strategic Aviation Solutions, says IATA trumpets its achievement in making it easier for passengers to travel by air but he says the same has not been done for freight.
He told Air Cargo News there was lack of creativity in the industry’s leadership, who are too focused on efreight as a panacea.
Wraight comments: “They talk about how proud they are of the growth in passenger business and all their efforts to make passenger travel easier and more accessible.
“Rather than the be all and end all focus on e freight, when will the industry start to realise that we also have to make cargo easy to use.
“We need to put resources behind making that simplified access a priority so we can match the passenger markets growth and sustainability with load factors overall averaging plus 80 per cent versus approximately 40 per cent for cargo worldwide.”
Wraight was responding to IATA boss Tony Tyler who announced disappointing global figures for airfreight declaring “times are tough”.
