European Union tax officials have reassured the airfreight industry that there will be no abrupt changes to the rules for temporary storage, says TIACA secretary general Doug Brittin. The trade will also be invited to join a new project group on the issue that will work with member states and the European Commission on drawing up a solution and guidelines, he said in the association’s latest newsletter.
Earlier, TIACA had warned that the new Union Customs Code (UCC), just six months away, would have a profound effect on the European Union’s imports and exports, with traders having to give financial guarantees when they use temporary storage unless they obtain a specific waiver. There were concerns that necessary systems would not be in place in time, added TIACA.
