Brussels Airport says its cargo traffic has recovered from the March 22 terrorist attacks.
Total volume in May 2016, at 40,396 tonnes, is almost back to May 2015’s 40,535 tonnes.
Traffic on full-freighter and integrator aircraft in fact showed significant growth. Full-freighter traffic grew by 7.9% on May 2015 due to the return and expansion of Ethiopian Cargo and growing volumes on other airlines, while integrator traffic was up 6 %.
Belly cargo however was still 16.4% down on May last year. It suffered from the continued reduction in passenger flights and numbers, which were still down 8.4% in May, as well as by the loss of Jet Airways.
However, early in the month, the airport’s capacity to handle passenger flights was increased from 22 to 28 flights per hour.
