UK-based Bridges Worldwide has commenced five-times-a-week freighter flights connecting Cologne Bonn Airport (CGN) in Germany with Malta and Larnaca, Cyprus.

The Boeing 737-400 Freighter on the new route belongs to Spanish cargo specialist Swiftair and has a cargo payload of 20 tons.

“With the introduction of this new route Bridges Worldwide is meeting the increasing uplift demands of the express cargo carriers and the German forwarder community,” said Guy Bridges, Bridges Worldwide chief executive.

“Furthermore we are offering for the first time direct main deck capacity for the booming fish and perishable exports from Cyprus to Western Europe,” he added.

Johan Vanneste, chief executive of the airport, said: “The introduction of this new high frequency freighter link shows clearly the great cargo potential of CGN and the CGN cargo catchment area.”

Cologne Bonn is Germany’s third-busiest cargo airport and among the top ten in Europe; 840,000 tonnes of airfreight moved through the gateway in 2017.
