Avianca Holdings has appointed Gabriel Oliva as executive vice president and head of its cargo unit.

Oliva, who will take up the role on August 18, has more than 20 years of experience in executive positions in a range of industries, with over 10 years of experience in the aviation sector.

He will also oversee Deprisa - Avianca's last mile delivery business - alongside Susana Argueta, and will hold a seat on the management team.

His most recent position was senior vice president for North America, Europe and Asia Pacific for Latam Cargo.

Previously, he led the areas of global transformation, alliances and interline, marketing and customer experience, product development and revenue management for North America and Asia.

Oliva has also worked with companies that include The Boston Consulting Group, Siemens and Petrobras.

Adrian Neuhauser, president and chief executive Avianca Holdings, said: "We welcome Gabriel. Cargo has without a doubt enormous relevance for Avianca as it represents an important percentage of our total income and has consequently grown in participation.

"At this point, when we are re-imagining our company, we are convinced that we need a long-term strategy for cargo, as we expect to be leaders in the sector and Gabriel’s arrival will contribute to this goal."
