American Airlines Cargo is hoping to capitalise on the roll out of the airline’s summer schedule, with several new European destinations being added to the network.
The cargo division said that from April it would benefit from new routes and frequencies also serving Latin America and in the Asia Pacific region, with larger aircraft being utilized which will provide increased capacity.
Out of Europe, the carrier is operating new flights from Venice Marco Polo Airport (VCE) to Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW); from Edinburgh Airport (EDI) and Milan Malpensa Airport (MXP) to Philadelphia International Airport (PHL); from Naples International Airport (NAP) and Madrid-Barajas Airport (MAD) to Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD); from Athens International Airport (ATH) to Charlotte-Douglas International Airport (CLT); and from Rome-Fuimucino International Airport (FCO) to Miami International Airport (MIA).
Some of these seasonal routes start this month and many will extend as far as October.
In June, July and August, American will operate more than 4,000 monthly widebody flights between the US and Europe. Also of note, London Heathrow Airport (LHR) to DFW increases to five daily flights in April.
Meanwhile, flights from MIA to Buenos Aires International Airport (EZE) increase to two daily for April through October.
“We are excited about the many new routes out of Europe as well as the increased capacity in our Asia Pacific region that our summer schedule will bring and look forward to the additional opportunities that this will provide to serve our customers,” said Roger Samways, vice president of commercial for American Airlines Cargo.
