Air France KLM Martinair Cargo (AFKLMP) and China Cargo Airlines have ramped up their partnership with the signing of a new block space agreement.

The agreement starts on July 1 and will allow China Cargo Airlines to utilise Air France belly capacity for flights from Paris CDG to São Paulo Guarulhos Airport (GRU).

The two airlines have already had an interline agreement in place for a decade and also run a joint handling operation at Shanghai Pudong Airport (PVG) where AFKLMP shipments are handled by China Cargo.

“This new step signifies a deeper partnership and highlights our shared commitment to enhancing our range of services,” said Adriaan de Heijer, executive vice president of Air France KLM Cargo.

“By capitalising on our extensive networks, we can provide even greater benefits to our customers. I look forward to the synergies we can generate together.”

Wang Jianmin, president of China Cargo Airlines, added: “In the face of increasing challenges in the air cargo market, we are committed to building stronger and deeper partnerships.

This step with Air France KLM Martinair Cargo is a significant move towards expanding our aviation network and enhancing our air logistics market. Together, we will provide safe and efficient services to global customers.”

The additional capacity will be China Cargo's second expansion of space on services to the Americas this year. In January, the airline added three Boeing 777 freighter flights a week from Shanghai to Latin American gateway Miami.

The route from Shanghai Pudong International Airport to Miami International marked the first service by a Chinese airline to Miami.
