GSA Airbridge International Agencies (AIA) has launched a fund-raising initiative for Parkinson’s sufferers.
The UK-based company wants to raise awareness of the disease.
Parkinson’s is the result of an insufficiency of a chemical called Dopamine, which happens when some nerve cells in the brain have died.
People can find their movements become slower and they lose co-ordination. Their hands and bodies shake and this can affect everyday activities such as eating, getting dressed or using a ‘phone or computer.
Mark Andrew, general manager in Europe for AIA Cargo, notes: “Parkinson’s is a charity very close to my heart as my father-in-law is a currently diagnosed with the disease.
“Parkinson’s can affect the young just as much as the old and every hour someone is told they have Parkinson’s. We just hope that we can raise further awareness and support for further funding for much needed research, and see further information and support being provided not just to the people who are diagnosed but for their family and friends who provide pivotal support.”
Paul Jackson-Clark, Director of Fundraising at Parkinson’s UK, said: “We are delighted that AIA Cargo’ have chosen to support us. I’d like to say a big thank you to Mark Andrew and his colleagues at AIA.
The company has formed a committee to work alongside the Parkinson’s charity to format a calendar of activities and team-building opportunities for AIA staff and for clients who wish to also participate.
