Ground and cargo handling company Swissport International has announced the operational start of Swissport Ghana, an equally-owned joint venture company with Ghana Airport Cargo Centre (GACC).

Swissport Ghana will offer cargo warehousing and ramp handling at a cargo warehouse currently under construction next to the airside of Kotoka International Airport in Accra.

Scheduled to be completed in the fourth quarter of 2015, the warehouse will offer 10,000 sq m of warehousing space, designed to handle all kinds of cargo including perishables, valuables and dangerous goods.

GACC is a joint venture between Air Ghana and the Ghana Airports Co, the official operator of all airports and aerodromes in Ghana. Swissport International said that the leadership of Swissport Ghana will be “announced in due course”.

Nils P. Knudsen, head of global cargo services at Swissport International, said: “We have a strong and reliable local partner, and together we will help develop the local infrastructure.

“Ghana is a very promising market and with our state-of-the-art new facility we will be ideally set up to offer local, regional and international customers premium cargo services. We are looking forward to a fruitful and lasting cooperation.”

Marwan Traboulsi, chairman and chief executive of Air Ghana, commented: “This is a very exciting and perfect partnership and we are very much looking forward to working with Swissport International and making Accra the best cargo hub in Africa.”
