Air cargo demand was "stable" in July as manufacturing in the region has begun to pick up, according to the Association of Asia Pacific Airlines (AAPA).
The latest AAPA figures show that traffic measured in freight tonne kilometre terms (FTK) was 16% down year on year during the month while the average load factor was 10.4 percentage points higher at 69.7% in July "reflecting the sharp reduction in bellyhold cargo capacity following the grounding of most international passenger service operations".
The association said that airlines had seen "relatively stable demand for international air cargo shipments" following a modest recovery in the global manufacturing sector.
Over the first seven months of the year, demand is 16.2% down on the same period in 2019.
